Dr. Fatima Rasool is working as Professor in Punjab University College of Pharmacy, University of the Punjab, Lahore. She joined the department in 2009 as Lecturer. In 2012 she was promoted to Assistant Professor, in 2020 to Associate Professor and in 2023 to Professor. Dr. Fatima's research interest is to develop modified release dosage forms and targeted drug delivery systems, such as nanoparticles, nanoconjugates etc. Her research uses multidisciplinary approaches including computer modelling and simulation with a focus on molecular simulations as well as pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic principles for pre-formulation and preclinical evaluations of novel drug combinations and drug delivery systems. Currently her research focuses on phase transformations, interactions between assembled structures and how assembled structures can be perturbed.
More broader applications of her research include prediction of properties and behaviour of chemical and pharmaceutical systems, in particular drug delivery. The development of these predictive approaches enables us to predict, optimise, and/or control the macroscopic properties and behaviour of chemical/pharmaceutical systems and processes on a rational basis, thus reducing both the factorial space and experimental effort to fewer and better experiments.
Prior to joining University of the Punjab, she worked as a Hospital Pharmacist at Bahawal Victoria Hospital, Bahawalpur. She also taught and conducted research in Islamia University Bahawalpur, Bahawalpur and Hamdard Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Islamabad. She was awarded Indigenous Ph.D. Fellowship from Higher Education Commission of Pakistan for her Ph. D. studies. She was also nominated by HEC for the UNESCO- L'OREAL scholarship for young women in Life Sciences for the year 2009. She did Post Doctoral Research at Lancaster University, Lancaster, United Kingdom, in 2014-2015. His research focus include extraction, isolation, structure characterization and elucidation of biosynthetic routes of many potential secondary metabolites from natural sources utilizing multiple chromatographic and analytical techniques like, HPLC, UV, IR, NMR (1D, 2D), HRESI-MS, GCMS and LC-MS.
During first year of his working at Punjab University College of Pharmacy, he earned SRGP research grant for a project entitled “Extraction, Isolation, and Characterization of Natural Alkaloids from Apocynaceae: Probing Pharmacoinformatics Guided Anti-malarial Potential” and work in close collaboration with Professor Dr. Michel Frédérich at Center for Interdisciplinary Research on Medicines (CIRM), University of Liege, Belgium.
Abrar is actively involved in teaching Pharmacognosy (basic and advance) to Pharm.D students. He has published several ISI indexed research publications (SCI) in international Journals like Fitoterapia, Natural Product Research, Marine Drugs, Organic Chemistry Frontiers, Phytochemistry Letters, Arabian Journal of chemistry and RSC Advances.
